After successfully auditioning for the NBC soap opera Passions, he played Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald, one of five siblings, from the show’s debut in July 1999 to July 2004, and November 2004 to January 2005, co-starring with actress Molly Stanton, creating one of Daytime’s favorite couple, Charity & Miguel. in October 2004, Metcalfe returned to television as the teenage gardener John Rowland on the popular ABC TV drama Desperate Housewives, where his character had a secret relationship with housewife Gabrielle Solis played by Eva Longoria. Metcalfe made brief appearances in later seasons. in January 2005, after just nearly two months, Metcalfe expressed the difficulty juggling two major roles on a daytime and primetime, with the overwhelming work schedule. in February 2005, Metcalfe announced that he would not be returning to Passions and that he would be continue his role on Desperate Housewives on a full-time basis. Metcalfe is one of five celebrity victims to appear on the T.V. show Punk’d more than once; after Ben McKenzie, Wilmer Valderrama, Omarion, and Jesse McCartney. Metcalfe entered a rehab facility in March 2007 citing alcoholism as the reason for his entry.
